Nice!!!!!
Saturday, June 11.
We made it to Nice ladies and gents, but not without fighting through a large and aggravated Parisian crowd to get to our train, which was an hour or so late in leaving because of the strikes that are going on in Paris. I support freedom of speech and demonstration, but there's a point where it just gets ridiculous and it was crossed already. Our prof, was relieved that our train wasn't canceled. The Euro cup is held in France this time which has brought in a lot of tourists and fans. Most of them loud and drunk and creating riots. There's been three riots so far I think. Them English are trouble. Combine them with the Parisians/those in Marseilles equals a nightmare. Here in Europe, soccer is not just a game, it's life. On our train ride to Nice, they ran out of beer after the first two hours because the Irish fans were drinking so much. Ireland is playing against Poland on Sunday here in Nice. They are very loud, love to sing their team songs, and can be a bit crude. Anyway, once we got underway, the train ride went nicely. It was about a four and half hour trip from Paris to Nice. We were getting pretty antsy after the first two hours. Luckily, Hannah had brought cards with her and we played Nerts until arriving in Nice. Slowly, but surly I was getting better. We don't talk about the first few rounds we played. Becky won almost every time, Hannah won a few and Tara kay and I improved in our skills. :) Once we got in sight of the ocean it was hard to focus on the game, so we stopped. Nice is beautiful you guys! I've missed the ocean so much. We saw it during out bus tour of course, but we didn't get to spend time at the beach and the weather wasn't very ideal. Lots of fog. Nice is perfect. It's weirding me out a bit that the ocean isn't in the west like i'm used to, and therefore the sun doesn't set over the ocean, but it's still cool. Once we got to our hotel, it turns out that they had given some of our rooms to other customers, so they had to fix that problem of double booking. Le Bras wasn't happy at all. Not professional he says. Can you really blame him? Stressful being in charge of 23 students and having no place to put them when you've already paid for a place and they made the mistake of double booking. It all worked out in the end though,  We were all given complimentary drinks for our troubles and given back our rooms. I wonder where the people they double booked the rooms to went. The hotel is like a apartment hotel with three people to a place. There's  kitchen with a couch, and a bedroom. It's nice to settle in one place for longer then one night. Once we all got situated, we found ourselves a restaurant to eat dinner and went grocery shopping before going home and working on our papers and homework that are due on Monday. Dinner took about two hours comme d'hab. The service lady was very nice. Touchy also. She seemed very Italian in her mannerisms, which makes sense since we're on the border with Italy and this place used to be a part of Italy. With the Euro cup bringing so many people here, her place has been really busy. We sat in front of some Irish fans. Slightly entertaining and slightly appalling. There was a lady  trying to parallel park her car across the street, when she succeeded they clapped and cheered her on, no harm right, but then when she bent to get her things from the car their cheering was for other reasons. The poor women handled the situation with grace, but you could tell that she was uncomfortable. Some people's children. Having fun in Nice guys. :)

That's right, be jealous. It's beautiful!
Our group receiving complimentary drinks for our troubles.
I'm so happy to be by the ocean again!!!! Literally gives me life.
